Astrological remedies and its effectiveness

As we know astrology intend to predict the future whether good or bad in store for us. However the vedic astrology suggests remedies for planetary afflictions and bad combinations! are they really effective ? If so how one can predict with precision an event that can be altered by human intervention like remedies , gems etc? is it not contradictory?

I think its what influence the concept of people reacting towards the nature of their doing.Improvment or deterioration of their life depends on it if you believe it to be true.
