LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates and creates an image by varying the amount electrical charge applied to these crystals.
Plasma - use tiny gas plasma cells charged by electrical voltages to create the picture.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I suggest you read through this article which will explain these advantages and disadvantages in depth.

i dont know much about plasma but sure that LCD (Liqiud Crystal Display) is the best one and i am using it also.

basically the difference is in the way of construction of the monitor....upto 17" lcd is betta in terms of efficency and quality...above its plasma which is always better
