Do you wonder why people stick with decisions that they are not happy with

Like when they finally realize after years theat they chose the wrong career and theat they hate their job but they refuse to go back to school or learn a new trade because they want to justify the decision that they made when they were little older than a kid and didn't really know what it was that they wanted? Is it easier to be miserable than it is to try something new?

Truth be told for many ppl its easier being unhappy and miserable...I think that is crazy mind you I was guilty of it myself a few yrs back...many ppl fear change and ppl tend to think that if they screwed up the first time and let go of a job they cant stand in order to try and find something better, who's to say it wont screw up again ya know...

Is this what is known as, the devil that you know rather than a new one mentality?

People generally choose the path of least resistence. As we become more mature (get old) what is important changes and our lives are filled with so many other things/obligations. To change a career, change a family (divorce) seems to be more trouble than it's worth with so many other things going on. Besides major changes can often mean a change in income and not often for the better. A different career or a divorce can me starting over from the bottom of the money pit. To most people money is the priority.

Some people are just plain stubborn. Some are afraid of change. I don't think that a lot of people actually choose misery, they just don't find it easy to break the patterns of their behaviour. Sometimes there also may be a feeling of security in not changing their circumstances. It's not necessarily what they want from life but it's what they know..... I think we should all step out of our comfort zones once in a while and especially while we are young enough to bounce back! It's just easier for some than others.
