Why do northIndians call South Indians MADRASII

It is a common pattern among Indians in nothern states to call south Indias 'Madraasii'. y is it so? South Indian dont call them any niknames.

in the pre independence days , many people
travelled from Madras to northen parts of
India . As the most of the other people
are from Madras , the northen people called
them Madrasis . This name still exists
today even after we have four south Indian
states , viz., Andhara Pradesh , Karnataka ,
Kerala , Tamilnadu .
