First of all, hats off to you for your great attitude. Walking is a great way to begin an exercise program. The trick is to find something you like so exercise does not become a miserable chore. Don't give up, it gets easier as you go. It is always good to have someone to talk to as you go through the process. Feel free to add me as a friend and PM me anytime you need a pep talk. Best wishes!

I would start by walking at least 30 minutes every day, whether sunshine, rain, or snow. Don't skip a day. Also clean out your kitchen cabinets of unhealthy foods. No foods with enriched flour, high fructose syrup, sugar, or hydrogenated oil. Listen to upbeat music and dance! The music will keep you motivated to move and dancing is a great exercise. Find a partner to exercise with. Someone who will help you stay committed. I wish you the best of luck.

Maybe we should be supportive of each other! I'm overweight too! And my biggest problem is discipline; making myself get more exercise! Everything I do is with the mind! Watching the news, reading, writing, and on the computer.. And I stay real busy, but it doesn't burn a lot of calories! I noticed a poster said to turn on some music. That's my goal. I love music. If I play it, I will dance (used to be alot but less now I'm older) - but do I ever turn any on? No, satan is trying to kill me. I guess he 's not being allowed to do it quickly, so he's trying to do it slowly. I know this, but I am still being powerless. When you get on track, or if you are on track, try not to get off. I was doing so good a couple of years agao then I got off track when my husband was home with a knee injury, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.
I will keep you in my prayers!!

P.S. I forgot I was going to say to try to be more active in small ways... take the stairs.. park further away.. walk somewhere if it's within walking distance.. [only if it's in daylight tho, and safe] - when I was dieting if I had to go upstairs, I'd go up and down at least twice instead of just up and down.. little things like that. I'd even like to get a rocking chair for computer use, so even when I'm sitting I can be moving and burning calories and getting fit. I think they say to have an esercise routine the same time of day, so it's an engrained habit. And they also say to start and end with stretching, or begin with only stretching for a couple or few days.. You do want to start out slowly as getting too sore and tired makes it hard to keep it up (that would be experience talking:))

Well, some people have different views of what morbidly obese is, so I don't want to give you advice to do too much. One easy thing is, if you have a TV, don't use a channel changer. Every time you want to change the channel or volume, get up to do it. When you want a snack, but you know it's just for the sake of eating, use sugarless gum.
To work upper body strength get a cheap pair of 2 pounds weights. There are numerous exercises you can do to improve your arms. I walk around my block, but when I first started to do so, I'd just walk around once. Now I walk a mile a day and I miss it when I can't get out and do that.
Look for fruits with high density, that is, they are 60% water and fill you up with less sugar than others. Like strawberries, pears, kiwis... Don't be afraid of fat. Be afraid of saturated fat. You want to leave that alone. Fish and chicken are very good as long as they are not fried, but having red meat a couple times a week should not be a big deal if you are being careful with everything else. Eating red meat a couple times a week will also keep you from being anemic.
The most important thing is that if you mess up and cheat, don't be too hard on yourself. Shake it off and start back the next minute you have, not the next day.
Oh, and try not to go from 2,500 calories a day to 1,200. That isn't going to work if you are used to more calories. Gradually go down.
I wish you nothing but the best!

I would say if you are as you say, obese, then the very first thing you should do is see your doctor. There may be some medical reason why you are the way you are and also check to see what excercise is safe for you. My first thought would be to walk but I don't know the condition of your heart, lungs, legs, knees and such. Your doctor should check you out from head to toe and then recommend what is best for you and your condition.

I have already seen the doc. He says i am healthy enough to start an excersice program. He wants me to join a support based program like weight watchers or jenny craig, they are expensive, but my main problem is child care. This is why i look for things i can do at home or with my kids. I actually went on your website and found some recepies i liked. I liked the idea of the cabbage soup but not as a diet, rather as a meal, my kids are also a little overweight so I try looking for meals to take care of them, too.

You might want to look into T-Tapp. It is a low/no impact wxercise program that was developed by Teresa Tapp when she was recovering from spinal surgery. You can find more information on www.ttapp.com. They have some short vidoes for download that show how to do some of the excercises and they have forums that offer a wonderful support base. And, of course they sell dvds on the site as well. There are a wide array of workouts, from aerobic to floor and sit-down excercises.

Hi I know exactly how you are feeling. I was very very overweight about 2 years ago but something just struck me to loose weight. Now im 10 stone 3lbs lighter and have joined the gym. But before that I started by going out with my mum and the dog for a 30 minute walk making sure there were hills to walk up to push myself just that little bit more.
It is very hard to start out though and people just dont understand how hard it is to exercise when just moving about the house takes it out of you. Keep up with the postitive attitude you will achieve your goals if you believe you can.
Changing your diet will also have to contribute but im sure you know that already.
one last tip though .... try cutting out bread. I have found this is what helped me to start loosing at the beginning of my diet.
