Can you tell me how can you cut a ckae into eight pieces by using the knife only thrice

hmm... you make the 1st and 2nd cut by creating a cross (one vertical and one horizontal cut) to cut the cake into 4 pieces... for the 3rd cut, cut the cake in half by cutting it from the side... so the 4 pieces will be cut into half, which results to 8...
