For My Daughter:
I am brown
Like milk Chocolate
Melting sweetly
On the tongues
Of those that
Truly understand
The delicacy
Of Diversity.
The subtle complexities
When flavors mix
And dance across
The pallet
Of Understanding.
I am brown
Like the trunk
Of a tree
Strong and sturdy
Growing tall
Reaching towards the sun
My branches stretched
To embrace
The world
But limber enough
Not to break
When the storms of hate
Blow over me.
I am brown
Like the river
Flowing over
Jagged rocks
And winding
My way through
Twists and bends.
Ever changing.
Never changing.
Constant in my beauty
And my grace.
I am today.
I am forever.
I am brown.
