Is United Nations a Sucess??

WHat do you think? Since the UN began from 1947s, has it achieved many things commendable? Or, is it just a failure like the League Of Nations? So many wars have been fought, and are going on daily. Is UN commited and also powerful to handle them? If not, what else can be more suitable? What other body might do such a responsible, mighty job?
