I agree with you. I will admit to reading less BOOKS, but I do read a lot on the computer. I use my computer for educational purposes, not so much for games.
I still read a lot of books, but I use my computer too. I think I have come to a good balance between the two.
I read more when I figured out what I wanted to read, not when people were trying to put reading material of their own choosing infront of me.

It`s true and this`s very bad because when you don`t read enough books, you cannot be sound and balanced in thinking. Our youths should stop concentrating more on video games because it makes them behave foolishly and seeing events on the surface value instead of being analytical.

I agree. It makes me sad to see my nieces and they would rather do video games or watch tv than read. I love to read. It helps me build my vocabulary ... and I feel a good book is more enticing than most tv shows.

Generally speaking, Yes, I do agree with you. My daughter is an exception to the rule, however. She reads voraciously! She is 7 years old and has been reading for at least 3 years now. We go to the library weekly and pick up more books for her to read. She alwasy gets through the pile of books we take out and is looking for more to read. She likes to read just about anything too from biographyies to fiction and everything in between.

I agree with you. All they think about are video games, TV, Ipods you name it. I know in school they really push reading. My sons get reading assignments everyday. One is in 4th grade and the other is in 6th grade. I is really up to the parent to make sure they do it. My 13 year old was not doing it until I started making him sit down with me and read to me. I try to get them comic books and video game books. These are things I know they love and this is the way I get them to read.

An interesting in books and reading starts before the child begins school, so that means it is up to the parents to encourage their child/ren to read. Also children do not buy their own video games and so once again it is up to the parents.
All of my family read a lot and every day as well. I read both during the day and certainly last thing at night or else I cannot get to sleep. My husband reads every day as well and so does our son, and this he has done since he was very young. We used to read him books from a baby and as soon as he could hold a book in his own hands, this is what he did. He is now 31 years old and still reads every day, or at least when he is home he does. Friends have young children and they too read books on a daily basis, and although initially they did not like it they soon learnt when staying with us that it was a case of no television or games till they had read. So now, they automatically pick up a book and will read for a while.
If parents do not set by example then children will not read particularly if they find it easier to play video games than to read.

I agree very much. Now, even when I was young I had my video games that I loved - my father is very into technology and used to fix tv's and other things for a living, and he bought us a lot of computers and game machines for the family - but I was also an avid bookworm, and read constantly when I was a child. I believe that this greatly enhanced my writing abilities, far more than anything I learned in school, although that was of course a huge part of it as well. Anyway, I would really be happy to see the kids of today reading more. Thankfully, the success of books such as the Harry Potter series has revived some major interest in children who are into reading those types of stories! ^_^

My kids love to read. I have tons of books at home and take them to the library 2-3 times a week. I have to ask my son to stop reading because I feel he reads too much and it is not good for his eyes. He sometimes sneaks a book and hides while he reads.
What is the secret? I don't have a TV cable, I never bought video games for them. Their time on computer is limited so they turn to books for entertainment.
