This is a report I just read: "Police shut down several blocks of businesses in the heart of downtown Austn early Monday after dozens of birds were found dead in the street. Experts were testing for any sort of environmental contaminant or gas or chlorine leaks that might of killed off the animals, police spokeswoman Toni Chovanetz said. The carcasses were found overnight along Congress Avenue between Sixth and Eight streets. There were no reports of any humans harmed, but the main north-south route through downtown, several side streets and all buildings in the area were blocked off and expected ot remain closed until about noon, Chovanetz said." http://www.breitbart.com/news/2007/01/08/D8MH54VG0.html
I have heard people speculating on what they think might have caused this. One person stated that it could be from the holly bushes with the red berries that come around Christmas and are in abundance each year. They have been red since Christmas and are starting to ferment. He says that the birds eat these berries, get drunk off of them and then fly at high speeds into glass high rise buildings or windows, killing themselves and then drop to the street. I find this scenario a bit hard to believe.
What do you think? Chemical poisoning? Maybe something viral? Could it be related in anyway to what is happening in NYC with the strange gas smell?

Today was the first day I heard about the effect the berries have on birds. I continue to be amazed at the things I learn daily online!
