Some people are more prone to depression than others (genetically or because of events in their lives), so I don't think there is a set number of times - some people can relapse, or suffer symptoms again. It's not a disease that can be "cured", rather a condition which you can work at, learn about, and come to terms with, learning how to deal with it. If your friend is relapsing, he needs support, and more therapy should help too. It could be that he just needs the positive reinforcement of the things he learned during his last therapy (if he had therapy). It's important to deal with the issues at the root of his depression, but it's never hopeless - there's always something that can be done. Get him to visit his doctor for a referral to the appropriate therapist for his type of depression, and let him know there are support groups, and that he has the support of his friends too. You're obviously a caring friend, to be asking this question, so he's got a head start there - knowing you're there for him no matter what will be a big help to him!

Well, the word "depression" is used for many different psychological problems, which have many different causes and treatments. As I'm not a qualified doctor or therapist, I can only encourage you to ask your friend to go to his local doctor, to tell his doctor about the problem, and to ask the doctor to refer him to a psychiatrist, a psychologist, or a counsellor (which one of these he gets treatment from will depend on what kind of depression your friend is suffering from). Only a doctor or a qualified counsellor will be able to tell your friend what type of depression he has, and when therapy starts, your friend and his therapist will discuss his problem, to decide between them what kind of treatment is best for him. Everyone's different, so there's no set way of treating mental health problems for everyone - that's why I can't really tell you any more than this; an expert will be able to help though, and if he gets a referral from his doctor, the treatment might very well be free. I hope this helps - the next step towards understanding your friend's depression will come from his getting therapy, and this will help him to understand his depression too - which is a big part of tackling the issues, and getting better! All the best, and get your friend to go to his doctor to get help, as soon as possible!

What kind of an answer is that? Depression is a serious illness, and time-wasters like you should stick to the light-hearted questions. I'm giving you a negative rating for this. Stupid stupid stupid...

For me depression can occur any moment of your life and it can happen s many times. People even have it all their life they are just not aware of it. They then complain of different sickness but they dont really have it as a result of depression. I hope i help you with this little information i give.

theres actually no specific times when a person may experience depression.according to a pscychiatric book, depression is a disorder wherein a person is chronically down, pessimistic or unhappy with life. these are people who have poor coping abilities when it comes to their problems and usually starts to become hopeless and have a low self-esteem. the state of depression can only be diagnosed by doctors.
