I hope I will say cloth when the time comes. It's better for the environment and more economical. And, hey I turned out ok despite them! lol
But I am not sure that I would "dare" to do so. I know some people consider it bad for the children, and I wouldn't want anyone thinking that I would not give my child the best possible!

Actually,I think you will find more mom's are starting to go back to cloth and plastic pants,as they are now finding out, that with all the chemicals in the disposables to keep the wet away, could be causing cancer, and other problems,as well as bad for the environment.
they are also much better for potty training,as the child feels the wet and wants out of them faster.

Definitely disposable nappies, they are much kinder to the babies skin, more convenient, more hygienic, and as I am in Australia with strict water restrictions they are actually better for the environment than wasting all that water and electricity, and polluting with soaps etc

The best for a child and the environment would be cloth. The easiest is disposable.

I should say cloth is best because it's cheaper and you can use it all over again than the other one.
