At the moment, I would get rid of most all of them. I'm just kind of not into holidays right now, and all these holidays mess up my postal and banking schedules.

I would get rid of all of the minor ones as well. The only holidays that I would keep would be Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter. Those are the only ones that the kids should have during the year. Plus if you take away those holidays the kids would not have to make up any snow days during the summer. Children get too many days off from school I think.

Columbus Day. The man was a liar and a cheat, and he didn't even discover America. The Vikings were here long before he ever was. It's a pointless, ridiculous holiday that I really wish we could do away with.

I would decrease the amount of time public school kids have off for Christmas/New Years. My son was off from Dec 22nd - Jan 8th, much too long. The private schools and Catholic Schools went back last Wednesday. I would also keep the kids in school for Labor Day and Martin Luther King day. What good is it to have the kids go back today then have a day off on the 15th? I would like to my son to have a shorter Summer Break as well. Three months is much too long. By the end of the Summer the kids are so strung out and it makes it harder for them to go back to school.

April, what really makes me mad is that the kids can be out for MLK day but not good Friday. I know when I had a "real" job it was horrible having to find and pay for a sitter for all these extended and unnecessary school breaks.

What makes me even madder is the holidays we already have is enough but the school has at least one student holiday per month for teacher/faculty meetings. Also they have at least one early dismissal a month. I remember back a few years ago in california where I lived they made a big fuss over mlk day and said that wasnt right because they wanted ceaser chavez day. Just get rid of these holidays and only have 4th of july and presidents day as federal holidays or something to that effect.

I would get rid of all of them and not be tied down to certain days of the year. In fact, I would get rid of the calendar altogether. I just want to live everyday like they are all important. I don't want to be forced to do a holiday if i don't want to. It gets so boring, going through the year always expecting certian things on certain days. I am working toward the day when I can forget what day of the week it is or what month it is. Time doesn't exist anyway except in the mind. If I feel like celebrating something, I will. Whenever I feel like sending someone something for birthdays or whatever, I will send it anytime during the year. I don't have any young kids, but understand your point.

I think it would be "boxers day" it's always on the calendars I buy, and I still don't know, what, why, or who celebrates this day and why. Do you know what "boxers day" is?
