Do you think going abroad would make your family have a better future?

I think it all depends on which country you are in. In the old days, the Irish used to have to immigrate to look for jobs because there were none. Today, Ireland has to import labour from the UK. As you've pointed out, Indians used to go overseas because menial jobs elsewhere often paid better than professional jobs in India. Yet, today, India is attracting people. The Philippines is another exporter of labour, which helps keep the economy running. I think many of us see people going overseas as a loss to their country. However, as the example of India and Ireland have shown, an overseas diaspora can be an asset, particularly when it allows you to develop links with other countries, which also means other markets. We now live in a day and age when people usually travel to another country at one stage or another in their career. This is part of the global market place and those who prosper in the global market place are the people who are willing to engage in the global market. In a way, I'm greatful for this. If more and more people go overseas to work, they discover other cultures, which in turn helps create greater understanding.
