New MYLOT rule

Ok, well it has been in the guidelines for quite a while, but it something that I have just noticed. MYLOT states specifically that people are supposed to read all other replies on a discussion before replying to one. That way, it ensures that multiple answers that say basically the same thing does not occur. I am now wondering if that is why many people have been losing points and money when they have only replied to legitimate discussions? How does everyone feel about this? I mean, I do try to read most of all replies, but now that I know this, it makes not even want to reply to the discussions that already have over 50 repsonses. What if I wanted to say the same thing and just word it differently than someone? Anyone have any idea how this works?

I really don't have a clue, but I am with you on the not wanting to respond thing. I check out the first page of responses, but can you really read over 50 to see if what you have to say is going to be different? Often times a person posts something that has been eating away at them like a cancer. It is a way of reaching out for support. Even if a response is repeated, the words are comforting to those who seek them. I still will post to a discussion I feel is worthy of my response. If someone benefits from my words even if they are the same but different, I feel good.

Exactly, and I guess it depends on the topic too. For example, how many times do you want to see the word "blue" over and over and over just because someone wants to know everyones favorite color ? Otherwise, I feel the exact same way. Thanks for responding.

I agree with exactly what ElusiveButterfly said here. It's like.. if I feel that a topic warrants my reply, especially in the case of something emotional that someone has posted, I'm not going to worry if what I say is a bit similar to what someone else has said. I don't think that Mylot is going to penalize us for that. Those words could be a real comfort to someone in need. I also can't see myself reading through 50 responses before posting. I guess that I should avoid some of those topics, lol ^_^

I did read most of them anyway, but there is no way that I can read through 100 responses all the time. If that is the case, when they send the email notifications it should not go to the post response page. There is no way to read the responses until after you post your answer.

What I am saying, is when your friend starts a discussion, if you have notify on, they send you and email telling you they started the discussion. It gives you an option to respond, if you do it goes to the post response page for you to answer. If they want you to read all the other replies first it should only take you to the discussion.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I don't have any e-mail alerts on, so I've never once responded that way. VERY VALID POINT! Ugh, I really wish MYLOT would get make their rules a bit more comprehensible. That way their won't be thousands of other posts like each day with people asking all the other members for community guideline advice.

Make sure to reply to the discussion, then it is automatically unique. If you're addicted to copy the material from any search, then you choose to discussions with no answers. There is all probabilities for us to earn. But need is our dedication and time to spend only with this site.

Whats the difference in reading the responses and understood that I read the responses. To me it is nothing. I hope in future also I carry the style of mine peculiarly.

Right, well of course they have no way of knowing if everyone reads all the replies. They are just wanting to make sure people do not repeat the same reply over and over and over etc. Having your own peculiar style will probably work best. I just wonder if they are removing posts that may be written differently, but essentially still mean the same thing 10 other replies meant. I would think that would be kind of harsh but you never know.

I read as much as I can, but when there are over 100 responses to a discussion, who really has time? My replies are what *I* think, and if someone else agrees with me, so be it.
"What's your favourite colour?"
If someone has already replied "red" am I supposed to pick a new favourite colour?
When answering a question like that I try to back it up with my own unique details.
"I love red because of my two flags. I love how well the Danish and Canadian flags go together. That's how I chose my avatar."
OK there may be others on here who like red, and there might be other people from Denmark and Canada on here, but as yet I've only see one avatar like mine.
I try to make my answers as unique and personal to ME as possible. Maybe someone else shared the same TYPE of experience, or has the same interests, but for something to be truly personal it has to be somewhat unique.

Um. Whatever that means.
Honestly, I don't understand what the member above means when he mentions 350 postings and the like.
Maybe myLot needs to have a requirement that all replies make sense to everyone, i.e., that they are clearly written and understandable.

To be honest, this is the first time that I had heard of this, and I feel that there are many of us that agree with the responses of others. Usually people say exactly what I want to say, but I do not want to comment under their discussions with "you are right" or "I agree." I, too, want to also state that I feel the same way. But, I have not copied anyone (intentionally), that I know of. I do not believe there is anything wrong with people feeling the same way, and basically replying with similar (but not exact) replies. It just shows that it is the "norm", to think the same. I hope that it hasn't happened to me. :(

This myLot "thou shalt read other replies before replying" thing is, from what I see, easy to do in discussions that aren't very well-traveled, but, see, this one already has over 100 replies and it's pretty tough reading all the different responses.
Thankfully, I've never copied anyone's replies either; I have, like you, agreed with others' views, but I've avoided the twin pitfalls of "me too!" or the "parroting reply" syndrome.

I would be honest, I read all the response. I like to read what other people wrote on the response.

but sometimes, there are more than 50 responses. i read all responses made to the discussions i started. but to others, sometimes, i don't read all. it's hard. especially when there are too many discussions aired by members.

I think it will help you if you approach mylot the way I do. When I joined mylot I had a dial up connection which cost me $2 per hour. I could do only 6 descriptive responses per hour from which I made less than 25 cents. So you see it is not for the money that I was at mylot. Consider mylot as a modern art or a beautiful woman. You cannot enjoy them if you try to understand them.
Go to the 0 response area. There are some nice discussions there to respond to. Enough to keep me occupied while I am at mylot.

You absolutely can understand a beautiful woman! I understand women and I enjoy them more than ever - it's not understanding that's the problem, is how to go about dealing with one's understanding or lack of understanding. As the man once said, 90% of life is what you make of it.

I think when you reply, it should be your opinion, and
if it happens that maybe 10 other people feel the same way,
the answers are at least honest. If you are trying to solve
a problem, and you find that there are others that feel exactly the same way it may help determine which direction you take. I realize that if you view others answers than that might enrich your answer or it might just lead to a person deciding not to respond. But maybe just maybe that poster may needs all the support that he or she can get...SS

im not sure how that works, but it sounds retarded. Posting is the reason why we are all here. we want to see everyones opinion!

I think it is because they do not want the same responses posted over and over, but that is just a guess. For example, on this discussion alone, I have seen the same question asked 5 different times because people didn't read all the discussions. Had they done that, then there wouldn't be as much clutter on the thread. That's just my guess on it though. I really wish MYLOT would be more specific.

I think this thought is unique, I've read quite a few responses :) Anyway, this is why I think mylot should be more like a message board and less of a one response starts a new thread of comments or however it is now. There should be a first post (as in your question above) then the next should be someone else replying to that... the next person would reply/quote/etc the previous poster, OR the original poster OR start a unique on-topic thought! I guess when I think of discussions I think of a long msg board thread where a whole group of people discuss back and forth. This site seems more like a question/answer place where someone asks a question, everyone answers on their own reply, and no one comes back to "discuss".
To see what I'm talking about, I play in the epinions message boards a lot and we have had some very long discussions! Imagine if we could earn money for that :)

Also, it's simply too hard to come back and discuss. Just try finding your last post on your friends threads to see if they responded. It's more work than it's worth! Yet when I play on epinions msg boards, I can start at the end and "catch up" to see what I've missed. If I do that here, I'll just be reading more random replies!

by the thanks for the information but till i know a lot of people would like to respond in a similar way to a discussion and i don't see anything wrong in it just make sure you frame it differently or change the words!

I think this is a little unfair where there are fifty responses to trawl through, people are going to have very similar opinions and answers to other people and to give the first person who posted that opinion more than someone else who posts a very similar opinion on the next page I think is unfair. I don't see how they could actually could make this a fair system and do they actually sit down and read each and every reply to every topic?

Everyone has an opinion about something that is different from the next person and even if it is the same he would not express it in the same way.
If we are here to earn it would take us a long time to be reading every response. If you have an opinion it would be best to just express it and move along.
Every one will benefit. Mylot gets more user submitted content. The user earns more. The person who started the discussion gets another quality response to his discussion.
I do understand where they are coming from though. What they should put more emphasis on is that users NOT start the same discussions that someone started - if they feel the need to know something they could read a similar post and maybe make a contribution.

It is advisable to read a good proportion of the responses, but this is hardly practical all the time. This discussion was showing 126 responses when I opened the page, so obviously that would deter anyone.
The whole idea is to stop people posting a comment without actually participating in a discussion, but if you have similar views to another member then your opinion is still valid. As you suggest, as long as the opinion is your own and it is presented in your own words then I cannot imagine Mylot having any objections.
I would say that if you start a discussion then you should read every response, which is only fair to the people posting them.

Yea, I mean seriously i wouldn't want to look through 100 pages of replies just so i can have a differant reply. How about i just say whatever i have to say in my own words :) And seriously i don't think any of us actualy reads all the responses unless its something of interest
