I tend to use vinegar a lot for many things. It's a wonderful product for cleaning. I also use METHOD products, which are chemical free products and work well. They can be found at Target stores and also Wegman's stores, along with on the web at methodhome.com What do you use to clean? Do you have any secrets for chemical free cleaning?

As much natural as I can. I avoid things like Lysol (which have been proven to aggravate asthma) and go for vinegar and plain soap flakes as much as possible. I also use Murphy's Oil Soap, which is great on hardwood floors.

My mom swears by Murphy's Oil Soap. I don't really have any wood that deserves or needs that kind of care. I'm still in the "lucky if it's even real wood" stage of my life! lol

My family also uses vinegar for non-traditional uses. We also use more chemical-free washing products for our clothes because some chemicals really cause a reaction in me. I noticed that some of the shirts we had washed in regular liquid made my back feel like it was burning after a time. It is also so much better for the environment to use these kinds of products! ^_^

I agree. I love to know that I'm making a difference in our environment, even if I'm not a tree hugger that goes gung ho. At least some effort to dismiss chemicals in our life is a start.

I use chemicals to do most of my cleaning as I am not familiar with any natural cleaning products. This is interesting to know and will take a look at the website since I am always interested in helping keeping our air clean and protecting our environment. Thank you for sharing this website with us. I am definitely going to check this out. Does the natural cleaning products work better than chemicals?

Some tend to work better, some work about the same. Once in a while you might have something really tough that only chemicals will work with. But for the most part, vinegar for windows and glass (mixed with water) works wonders and actually works better than any glass cleaner I've tried. 1 Cup of vinegar to a load of laundry helps lift stains and also softens clothes. It also keeps clothes from fading into each other. Vinegar also disinfects so can be used as an all purpose wipe, say perhaps for your counters, etc. The METHOD products all have added all natural scents. They're not much more than the cheapest brands and they smell soooo wonderful. Plus, if you sign up on their website they send you coupons in the mail and lots of other little 'items' including sets of sample sized products with their own microcloth to use with it! I've received a tshirt from them, coupons, tons of samples, a gift box with samples and microcloth for all 4 products sent and even a Christmas card! They're a small company but very customer oriented!

I clean with chemicals. Seems like every chemical i buy is soo strong. When there is a new one on the market i usually try it.I would like to try chemical free products, but we dont have a target store hear, the closest is 2 hours away. And i never heard of Wegmans? Where is this located at?

Wegmans is a grocery store, located in New York and Pennsylvania that I know of. It might be in other states, but they originated in Rochester, NY. Go to their website, http://www.methodhome.com and see if they have a listing where you can buy their stuff. You can purchase online too. If not, check out some alternative cleaning products, such as vinegar. Just do a search on non-chemical cleaning. I wish I could remember the one site I used to use all the time that listed soooooo many things you can use instead of the cleaning chemicals.

i use chemicals mostly for cleaning, however i know about some of natural products that could be used: Washing soda naturally softens water and cuts down grease; on the other hand baking soda is a good oven cleaner and facial cleanser too. Stains could be removed well by use of lemon juice. Switch on to natural pure soap flakes for washing task. Borax could be used as a substitute for chlorine bleach. It also increases effectiveness of plain soap, softens water, whitens clothes and fights bad odor. Similarly vanilla essence can be used to get rid of dirty smells. You can also try the following all purpose cleanser, made as follows: mix 50 ml each of cloudy ammonia (avoid inhaling fumes) and soda bicarbonate in 4 litres of hot water. Use either as spray or directly pour on a cloth.
