Okay so I need some advice, my 4yr. old has a field trip in pre-school coming up. They are going to the pumpkin patch. McKenzie has never been anywhere like that without me, nor has she ever riden the bus ( I have issues with the bus) so I talked to her teacher and said that I wanted to volunteer to chaperone....she tells me that it is not a first come first serve because there a re too many parents that want to go so they will put everyone who volunteers name in a hat and choose three names, those will be the parents that get to go. I'm SO not comfortable with this! I guess I can tell them that I am not comfortable with her riding the bus and that I will drive her to the pumpking patch, OR I could just say screw it and not have her go at all ( I don't think she would care or even know the difference) but I don't want her to miss out on something that all the other kids get to do because of my irrational fears....am a I freak?? What would you all do?

Part of preschool is getting ready for school. There will be many field trips in years to come and most will involve riding on a bus. If you do not allow her to go she may become confused or afraid and this may cause problems later. It is hard to let a child grow, but if you hold her back it may be difficult for her to adjust later. She needs to learn that other adults can be trusted-ie teachers etc. If you don't trust these people on a simple field trip-how can you trust them to watch your child every day? I am assuming these are trained professionals. Remember also that kids are cruel. If her mommy drives her she may get picked on about it. If you have to drive behind the bus but don't let her know you are there. Once you see her having fun then go home!

i would drive behind the bus. are you allowed to go if you drive? sometimes the limited amount of parents is because of space on the bus. i am sure there is room for you once you get there. ask!

Call the principal and and explain to he/she. I'd at least make sure I'd follow the bus. Follow your intuition.
