I would love to get some recommendations on marathons you would recommend to someone getting ready to run in their very first one. I am also a college aged female in California if that helps at all. Although help everyone out. What are some great marathons?

Most of the time people start with a marathon in their locale, since they are used to the climate and humidity.
famous ones include the boston marathon and the london marathon.
over the weekend i ran about 8km, but that was a mixture of running and walking. 10k is quite ok, even if you haven't run 10k before the actual day. the atmosphere of the day will carry you through. I'm training for a 10k run this december which is held in tandem with half marathons and full marathons, all flagging off at different times of course. :)

My husband has completed over 300 marathons.
The most interesting marathons in the US he has completed were:
- Pikes Peak Marathon in Colorado
- Crater Lake Marathon in Crater Lake NP / Oregon
Moderate interesting marathons were
- Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati / Ohio
- Derby Music Marathon in Kentucky
Not so interesting
- Wards Island Marathon in New York / NY
Hope it helps

Really I don't think that I can help you (if you need help). I am not an expert, I am not a coach. So why I am posting here? Because your discussion sound interesting (also if I am not an expert) and strange.
