You can get a job reading emails or writing in forums. You can have a career just by reading free information in the interntet. What would I need college for?

You'd have to raise the rate for forum posting, blog posting or whatever by 1000% and then some to compete with any decent professions wage :)
Thats what a lot of people forget...You might make ok money online, but how long do you spend doing it? and what do you miss out on by doing it? The hourly rate is becoming increasingly poor, even in semi skilled areas like web design because the web is a natural global marketplace...and people from lower wage countries .ie India can fill a job for a 1/3 of what I could afford to work for...thats just the way it is..and its great that India, and countries like it are pushing forward.
I actually predict that earning money online will become less and less attractive in many ways, and more and more people will go to college and university to get the best paying jobs..perhaps the only decent paying jobs.

If one can meet the educational standards by studying through internet, the distance education would partially take over the college work.
