I have gone thru this harrowing experience of bringing up my niece along with my son. We did all we could to make our family a happy one. we holidayed a lot, socialised a lot, talked on various topics with the kids as they were growing up. Unfortunately, my niece's parents got divorced during her stay with us, as they had a lot of differences. We continued to let her interact with both her parents & did not influence her thinking in any way. However, a few years down the road, she left us as she did not accept some terms we had to put down as parents. LAter she realised her folly & made up with us as she was planning to be married. We wed her off rather lavishly to a person of her choice, ever since she has again stopped keeping in touch with us. Where do you think we went wrong? Is blood thicker than water??
