I have bipolar. I think I have had it since my teenage years but I have been diagnosed 5 years. I have been hospilized 4 times in the last 5 around March for my bipolar. I never saw that program because we don't get BBC here. I have a physicharist and I am on medications. If you are on medications it is very important to take them as prescribed. I take topomax, serquil, epival, lamotrigine, clonazepam. I know it is a lot of medications but it seems to be working for me. I still get highs and lows but they are easier to control than before unless I am under alot of stress. Then my doctor will tweak my meds abit. I know I have to take medication the rest of my life and I have accepted that. That is one of the hardest parts of this illess is realizing you have to take the meds. Alot of people will stop taking their meds. This is more common in men than women. Try if you don't to get a doctor or therapist, that is the first step in dealing with this illness. Also if you are not on meds and are have bad manic/depressive states talk to your doctor. Also remember the first or second meds they put you on might not work. My doctor said to me once it is like building a puzzle, you have to put the peices together to reach the right combination.

Hi,
I dont take medication, ive been told to try self help first. I do have some horid down days but they are around once every 4 months though are hard to cope with. My doctor knows but is currently pleased with how im handiling them myself so medication is not an option at the moment. Thanks for your comments.

Bipolar is manic depression. You have extatic highs and dark lows unlike just depression where it is a constant low. Hope this answers your question.

My 17 year old daughter has Bipolar. I'm glad to hear that we're not alone. As far as coping. I find it difficult. We are in counseling sessions and thats about it for now.

I have been told I have type two bi-polar. I don't eve get manic. I go from depressed to REALLY depressed. I tried every medication from Paxil to Lexapro and nothing really helped. I was finally told I had borderline personality disorder which I am slowly learning to deal with. I still see my therapist every few weeks. I still have my ups and downs, but I deal with them a lot better.

Thanks really good! Life does feel a whole lot better when you feel you are more in control.

I have mixed bipolar where I am feeling angry and sad at the same time. I also have my ups, but the lows are what seems to consume my life. It is very hard for me to deal with but I just give it my best efforts. I am currenly seeing a therapist and I am on Abilify and Lamictal and they have seemed to help me very much. I did not see the program though, I wish I could have. I pray you keep strong with this life long illness.
