Leonard Cohen is CANADIAN!!! ;-) I love his lyrics. I also love the sound of that deep voice of his. Another voice I like, for the same reason is that of Russian singer Vladimir Vysotsky. Ever heard him? I don't understand a word of Russian, but I absolutely love the sound of his voice.

And clenching your fists for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well, never mind.
We are ugly, but we have the music."

My cousin turned me onto him in the 90's. I have never heard better lyrics from any songwriter. I think he even surpasses Dylan. I especially like "Last Year's Man." He speaks with the language of the soul. And his voice has a world weary wisdom that I find very appealing.

His lyrics are intoxicating. I discovered him through the movie soundtrack of Natural Born Killers. I am follower ever since. I can compare him to the great poet Pablo Neruda. May Cohen live to a thousand year.

In 1968, I happened on his first album in a music store. I can't say why, but I bought it, even though I didn't know the songs and had not heard his voice. I was captivated, and have bought all of his albums, novels, and books of poetry ever since. Also, versions of his songs by Judy Collins, Buffy Sainte-Marie. His song, The Traitor, has haunted me for some years. Can't play it enough times.

Have a listen to Buffy St. Marie's version of "God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot", (her album "Illuminations") which is from one of his poems in his book Beautiful Losers. Love the "Songs Of Leonard Cohen" album, too.

Yes, Indeed.
I have been a Cohenista for many years. First heard him in 1973 and been hooked even since!
