Last night a friend of mine from highschool had a visitation for his funeral, today they will have the actual funeral. I went to the visitation to show my respect to the family.
Today I do not want to go to the funeral because it is so much sadder than the visitation. I always have this problem when it comes to friends. I also think the funeral is more for family than friends. Which do you do, just the visitation/wake or just the funeral or both?

It depends on who the person is. If it is a close friend or family member I will go to both. THe closer the relation, the longer I stay at visitation. If it is a friend, but not necessarily a close friend or the relative of a friend, I will go to visitation only.

i will depends on how close i am to the family or deceased...if i'm very close, then i will go to both and will spend more time there too. but if it's just an acquaintance, i will only go for the visitation.

I am sorry about your friend. I lost my sister and I thinkthat its appropriate to show your self. I know that its really hard but fight back the tears. Good luck.

you are absolutely right. its more for the family than for the friends. thus the friends have no role in this occassion. they are just for help, thats it. whenever we go as a friend then its for help and when as a family its for duty

For me personally, it depends on the situation eg: how close where you, do you know the family well etc. Then again, at the end of the day, you should do what you are most comfortable with.
