Cigarette Butts thrown out the Car Window

Does this infuriate anyone else? It is so disturbing to be following behind a car and all of a sudden this little glowing projectile comes flying at you. A former co-worker of mine even has a friend with a burn mark scar in her neck because she was riding in a convertible behind a car that had flung a cigarette butt out the window.

I think it is a horrible thing to do, it al sparks up the front of the car behind. My friend had a burn on her face too, she was on her bike and it actually scared her, it was an red scar for a long time. If people have to smoke in their cars, why not use the ashtray?

Wow, best response - thank-you. I think that it would be nicer to just stop smoking but the ashtray would deffinately be an improvement.

Someone wrote & adressed a letter to someone who did that, & sent it to "Abby" & it was in her "Dear Abby" column. It was years ago, but the letter pretty much said "Thanks to that truck driver for starting a fire in my backseat & destroying a batch of groceries" & pretty much told him off. The few times I've seen this happen, a hand came out the window & pretty much flung it downwards, but with all these wildfires making national news, I would not be surprised if this is what starts them. While there are cell phone laws in various areas in which fines are levied by police for talking on cell phones & driving, I have also heard that smoking & driving can also cause accidents. So it is best to just concentrate on the road instead of smoking & driving too.

That is really gross, and as you've already stated potentially dangerous! Any littering is awful.

Yikes. I'm sorry to say but I am so guilty of this. Any time I smoke in the car I throw it out the window. Honestly, this thread will make me think about this more before I do it. I do have an ashtray after all. *sculks away from thread.*

Better late than never. Don't sulk away. With ashtrays being standard in cars, they should be used for that purpose. I don't smoke, so mine is full of change for the toll booths.
