The best coffe is made outside by the campfire. All you need is an enamel pot, ice cold well or stream water. Then you put in a handfull of ground coffee and let it sit by the fire until it boils over. Let the pot sit so the grounds sink to the bottom. It is the best coffee ever.

Interesting... if you ever go to a coffee shops and they have turkish coffee, that is basically how they make it. They bring it to the boil, stop it from boiling, and then bring it back to the boil again. Not sure how many times they let it boil. They then add plenty of sugar. It is an acquired taste how they do it (I normally cant stand sugar in coffee) but it is quite good.
AskAlly, how fine do you grind your beans for your method?

Maybe its me, but everytime I attempt to drink a cup of coffee made with instant, I end up leaving it unfinished. It seems so very bitter to me and leaves a terrible aftertaste in my mouth! I have even tried adding various things to make it more palatable, all to no avail. We do not grind our own beans,YET! My husband and I both love the taste of freshly ground, but have never taken the plunge and bought a grinder! His sister grinds her own and we love to visit her and have coffee! My husband is a coffee addict, consuming at least a pot a day between home and work. You never see him without a cup in his hand. Myself, I would rather have 1-2 really good cups of coffee, one in the morning and one after my evening meal! I also love hot tea!

Maybe for his or your birthday, you can get a grinder. If you both enjoy a good cup of coffee that much, it is well worth it. They are not expensive. I keep my beans in the freezer to stay fresh. I love my coffee in the mornings. Have a great day dear.

thanks to each of you for a wonderful suggestion! Yes, my husband has a birthday coming up in March. He is so hard to shop for...and now I know what I am going to do! If you lived closer, I'd have you each over for coffee!

If you decide to get him a grinder make sure it is a burr grinder - it provides a much more ever grind the the sort with a blade. Its the style they use is any decent espresso bar. I picked up a cheap one from walmart for about $20... heres a link they might be helpful :)

Beans that you grind yourself are by far the better tasting option.
Instant coffee by it very nature is diluted and watered down far to much for me to drink regularly, but for cooking meats and making coffee-based syrups, it's an excellent choice! :)
Instant coffee (1 tablespoon) plus Amaretto With Honey make an excellent blend for spiking up boring old whipping cream.

OOOhhh, that sounds yummy! I wonder if that will work with anything besides whipping cream?

I have tried many different ways. I really don't think that freshly ground beans have any more flavor than ground coffee. There is a huge difference in instant and ground coffee flavor. Years ago I would buy instant. I was the only one drinking it. Now, I don't even have a jar in my home.

I only grind mine. It seems to be fresher a longer time. I keep the beans frozen.

I like instant better than ground. That is when I am home. I like to have Tim Horton's coffee when I can get it if I am away from home. I used to put sugar and cream in my coffee. Now I drink it black. Only one or two cups a day. And maybe a cup or two of tea.

I have a habit of drinking Instant coffee but I do enjoy a good cup of brewed coffee from either beans or grounds.

Definitely, hands down! Fresh ground beans -- and if organic all the better for robust aroma and full bodies flavor -- too much trouble one will say, but atlas - have a husband coffee addict who will settle for nothing less and he is the one who buys, grinds, makes this wonderful morning beverage and sets it on the counter for me faithful (11 years now) every morning!! (He brings his coffee/grinder to friends when visiting not to mention, backpacking and camping) -- If one must use an instant (mega emergency) then it is the Folger dunkable bag blend that I recommend its flavor is passable and the convenience of the "tea" bag is just right! :)

The beans we grind tastes better. In India to be more specific we have something called filter coffee...tastes very good. They get the decoction overnight.

in my opinion, much better is the beans you grind because its fresh although instant coffee go through a lot of processing...i can also say that fresh coffee is much aromatic than instant coffee and its much healthier however, you should limit yourself in drinking of coffee :)

Hi! I'm going to say that it depends on how badly I need it and which I can get my hands on fastest! LOL There are times when instant is good, but I generally prefer brewed coffee. :-)

I have never found an instant coffee I can really love. I do buy my everyday coffee already ground, but we buy special beans now and again for special occaccions. We have a little electric grinder that does great for this purpose.

I can't stand any kind of instant coffee. Beans ground at home are the best, but I don't usually go through the bother. Once in a while I'll pick up a bag of the mild beans from Starbucks and use it at home, but my favorite is Folgers. I'm pretty much loyal to the Folgers brand at home.

Coffee beans that are boiled are far more tasty and smells good rather than those instant coffee. Here in our place people usually grind and boils there own coffee especially those who have no money tobuy instant coffee. What they usually do is pick some coffee beans in the stalk and dried it up in the sunlight then grind it and boiled the coffee in the kettle. They usually used brown sugar or mascuvado sugar in it.It was really smells good and the taste is really different from the instant coffee we usually take.

I used to own a coffee hop in New Zealand, so this is where my advice is based on. Beans that have been freshly roasted within the week, and ground within minutes of using them are by far the best. Beans lose about 50% of the aroma within the first week or so after ROASTING. After grinding, beans lose about 50% of the aroma without a few hours. If you were to then make an espresso based drink, it would lose about 50% of its aroma within minutes... so the fresher the bean the better.
Storing in the fridge / freezer I think is a bad idea. Coffee beans absorb flavors... just been fishing? if you keep your fish in the fridge with the coffee, you'll get fishy smelling coffee..
As far as instant coffee goes, the only sort I drink is the freeze dried instant. It looks alot different then normal instant. Basically what they do is make real coffee, quickly freeze it, then dehydrate it. The flavor is alot more like really coffee, because it is essentially real coffee. There are (usually) no chemicals added.
I hope this will be of some help to everyone - if you have any questions feel free to ask away...
