Setting your clock ahead.

Here's a question for you....do you set your clock to read 5, 10, or 15 minutes faster than what it truly is? I have known people to do this. One person had actually set her clock ahead by 30 minutes. My advise was to just set her alarm a half hour earlier.
What purpose does it serve to set your clock ahead? Do you really move faster if you think you have less time? Or, do you know your clock is set ahead of the actual time and dilly dally around?

I thought I was the only person that did this. I'll set my clock about 30 minutes ahead so that when the alarm goes off I'll see the time and panic and immediately get out of bed...I fall for it every morning..LOL

I do this too. I don't know why because I lie there and look at it because I KNOW it's 30 minutes ahead. :/

Funny the things we try to do to trick ourselves into doing things we don't want to do.

Even thought I do set my clock 10 minutes ahead, I can't do it any further. Instead, I set my alarm clock an hour ahead of time so that it will go off many times to get my butt up. ha ha

i used to set my alarm clock 15 mins ahead but knowing that i still have 15 mins allowance i still remain in bed for the duration. I think setting your clock ahead have an unknown reason kinda like your playing a trick on yourself bec you acteully know what's the real time. (o^_^o)

If we would all just go to bed at a decent hour, we would be rested enough to get up when the alarm goes off. Thus getting up earlier would ensure that we would get to our appointments on time, by allowing ourselves enough time to be ready.
Does that sound like a blonde moment?

I do actually set my clocks 5 to 10 minutes beyond the time. It does help when others look at the time. I can not stand being late or rushing. So it often fools others as to what the time is. But my partner gets irritated because he says that there are no two clocks set the same in this whole house! LOL And when I tell him what time it is when I am trying to get up, he will argue that it is my bogus time and not the real time. So he knows that he has 10 more minutes. Grrrrr
But the clock on the cable DVR box I have no control of! :) So, I will tell him that the cable box reads 8 o'clock. And I do not lie about it. So, he will then have to admit that he has to get up.
I have to set my clock ahead. It is a habit I started when I was in high school. And I hate being late...so I act as if the time I set it to is the actual time. :) Unless I have to wake my partner. ha ha

The cable clock is the most accurate clock in our house too.

All of my clocks except my alarm clock are on time. The alarm clock is 5 minutes fast. When I'm in a hurry I forget that sometimes and it tricks me into being on time wherever I'm going. I had a bad habit of being late alot when the kids were little and growing up. I never could seem to get organized! I used to have the clocks 10-15 minutes fast. I've gotten better over the years, I'm usually on time or within 5 minutes (one way or the other) of being on time. I think if my clock were 30 minutes fast I'd be pretty confused about the real time!

My bedroom clock is set 5 minutes ahead. It gives me time to breath before making that mad dash out of bed. All others are set with the exact time.

The clock in my bedroom is set 30 minutes fast. The clock in the kitchen is set 10 minutes fast. But, I find that in fact, I'm usually late for everything because I lie in bed knowing that the clocks are fast. A couple of weeks ago my husband turned the clock in the kitchen 10 minutes faster again, just to be funny. I couldn't figure out how, all of a sudden, I was starting to be early for things.

I don't do this but my mother does. Her clock is set like 5 minutes fast. The one in her car is too. It doesn't help her though because she is still running late to places. I love her but I do pick on her for being late sometimes. She knows her clock is fast so she knows she has that extra time so she should just set it back to the regular time.

I find it humorous when people set their clocks ahead and are late regardless of the fact.

Yes I sure do! A friend of mine does that! She will set it 15 minutes ahead for some unknown reason, then she is always without fail still 15 minutes too late for anything, and if she asks me what time it is, she will disagree with me every time, because her watch says it is a different time! hehehheee WOOOOOOOEEEEEOOOO! Sometime I have wondered if she might be from a different planet? hehehhehee

For me setting my clock ahead doesn't help in anyway, because I know its ahead and I take my own sweet time. I am a punctual person so I don't worry too much about time. But my hubby has the clock in his car ahead by 25 minutes. I don't know why he has it that way beacuse I've never seen him do things according to that time! Well I guess it's all in the mind.

My clocks are about ten minutes ahead. I know they are, but I like to be ahead. I know that if I am running really late, i actually have a little onger then I thought.

Goodness me .. please don't complicate my life any further .. how on earth does it help to have clocks set forwards or backwards or whatever ..
I have enough problems trying to keep the right time in my head as it is .. let alone making my clock show me the wrong time .. having Fibromyalgia Syndrome means I am always in a muddle .. so I just couldn't cope with an inaccurate clock .. I think I would rather have no clock at all than a clock showing the wrong time of day ..

I personally don't do this but my dad does. I think he does it so he's not late for work, although he leaves for work almost 1 hour from time to clock in. So I'm really not sure why he does it. I've always wondered if setting you clock ahead works because you know its set fast, so you can still stall around or hit the snooze button because you know the time isn't right on your clock.

The trick is to have the clock between 5 and 10 minutes fast, and treat it as if it is correct, that way you should never be late for an appointment, never miss a bus or train, and will also give you a chance to relax when you reach your destination. My wife, however is always on the last minute for everything, and often late for work refuses to have clocks set fast, just says that that is cheating time.
Me - I would rather be 10 minutes early than 30 seconds too late.

My husband is guilty on this one, he sets all the house clocks ahead by 20 minutes. I'm not much help though, because I am forever saying, we/you/I have 20 plus minutes to get there/do this etc.
I don't like it, it eases me into a false sense of time security thinking I have more time then I really do, I am one those who calculates the real time and then dilly dallys as you say until I'm rushed to do whatever on time :)
But it works for my husband he consistently lives 20 minutes into the future that hasn't happened yet, and me I just live with it, you know one must choose their battles wisely -- and a happy husband, a happy home :)

This type of time manipulation has never really worked for me.My brain just readjusts for the time difference.A few minutes may help, though.

I too have a habit of setting my clock 10 minutes ahead. Just when I think I am going to be late for an appointment, I remember that I have an extra 10 minutes so I can relax a little. I suppose I got the habit from my dad. When we were growing up, he also set the clocks 10 minutes ahead. Old habits die hard.

My sister-in-law had hers set 30 minutes ahead and one day complained that she needed to set it 45 minutes ahead. It drove everyone nuts.

Everything in our house is different.
I think the bedroom clock was 10 minutes fast until the power went out. Still haven't reset it.
My watch used to be 5 minutes slow and it used to help me determine when to leave for work.
Now that it's set accurate, it's hard to judge the time.
I won't set the time ahead since that will just confuse me more.

My bedroom clock is off by 7 minutes. I often wake by the clock when I have to get up earlier than usual. If the clock is set for 7 am., I wake, lay there and wait for the living room clock to chime. Then I know it is time to get up. The rest of the clocks are on time.

yes i used to do that when i was in school. i always had hard time getting up so i assumed that setting the clock ahead and waking up earlier would be a good thing. only that i knew the clock was 5 or 10 min ahead so it didn't work. so i finally i had to come up with something else not to be late. i used to set my clock ahead but without knowing how many minutes ahead (i had an electronic clock so when i was setting it ahead i used to do it with my eyes closed). that actually worked.

Yup seriously buddy it helps quite a lot ,specially for those guys who are sluggish and listless and have habit of postponing things ,these certain measures do help them to become punctual according to their needs..........
I do set my home clock watch 15-20 minutes faster so as to get up early and have work done fast so as to reach the college on time !!!!!!

I used to but my partner in crime hates it. He always goes and sets it to the correct time.
I need something like that in the morning, to jump start me.
I am a compulsive person who is almost never late, and if I am it is because of extenuating circumstances, car accidents, bad weather, etc.
My car is usually an hour off for 6 months of the year, since i can never figure out how to set it properly.
