myLot Reputation

We are pleased to bring you more exciting innovation from our team here at myLot! We have developed a new algorithm that now ranks a myLot user’s reputation. The myLot reputation rating takes into account various factors including discussion ratings and is based on a scale of 0 to 10 stars with 10 stars being the highest. These stars currently appear next to usernames in discussions. At this point, you may be asking yourself “What about the user rating number that appears next to everybody’s name? Isn’t that for ranking a user?”. The user rating that you are familiar with ranks the level of a user’s activity on myLot. For example, a user with a rating of 1,500 is fairly active on myLot, but the rating really tells you nothing about the quality of the user’s activity or how the user is perceived by the myLot community. The new myLot reputation algorithm ranks the quality of the user’s contributions to myLot, as perceived by the myLot community. Users with a user rating of less than 100 will not yet have myLot reputation calculated, and will therefore have no star next to their name. myLot reputation updates once per day, so most users should see their reputation appear shortly after reaching a user rating of 100. Remember, myLot reputation is determined by the myLot community, and it is cumulative for all user contributions. Therefore, myLot reputation can fluctuate even without a user participating on any given day. In addition, you shouldn’t think of a particular myLot reputation level as necessarily being “good” or “bad”. It just means that a user with a reputation of 8 is generally more highly thought of by the myLot community than a user with a reputation of 5, and so on and so forth. It doesn’t mean that 8 stars means “good user” and 5 stars means “bad user”. Both are valuable members of the myLot community. As you might have guessed, the best way to increase your reputation is by contributing quality topics, responses and comments and avoid posting low-quality content or items that violate the myLot community guidelines. We look forward to hearing your feedback on this latest new feature!

I don't really understand the point of this new feature. Sure I see that it shows if you are liked by others but really what does that do? Does this affect other aspects of the site? Thanks for keeping us informed MyLot!

I don't like the star, it was ok, before they came out with the stars. makes you feel like you are being graded! That's my opinion.

This is quite interesting. I think this might be a way to determine sometimes whether a person is worth responding too as in if they are still actively posting and such on here huh? I think this is a Great addition.

It could also be great if some people could have star with a minus in it or another shape. People who have a lot of abuse report and a lot of negative rating could have that :) I think it's a good innovation and I'M really happy with my nine :)

I like that idea Beyonce03. For now though, I'm happy with the stars, even though I'm too new to have one yet. But I do agree that the real bad ones should be easier to notice. If not right now, maybe in the near future!

I very much like this idea although in might inhibit some myLoters. Some of the ideas presented might not be on what I consider my intellectual level (which is not Einstein by any stretch of the imagination) which is based more on experience than learning. However, as you have stated it may improved on the quality of the discussion posted in the future. At least I hope so. There is one other point that I would like to broach now that I have your "eyes"...as opposed to your ears. I have been thinking for posting a discussion to "provoke" those posting discussions to at least make an effort to responde to those who respond with intelligent thoughts. They pose good discussions but they do not follow up the results. This has been bugging me because I answer all responses regardless. True many or most of my discussions do not get responses in the 100s or even 1000s which makes it easier for me to answer them all. Part of the reason I do not post more discussions is that I don't have time because I enjoy responding to others' posting more than I do commenting on others' responses. This is not a complaint directed at myLot but rather to the participants on the site. Thank you for "seeing" me.

I think this is great and bad at the same time. Great because it does offer encouragement for those that want to get to a 10. Also great because it tells others if their rating is a 2...you probably would not get along with them as much. Hence, encouraging the one with a 2 to increase the higher rating. However, it could be bad because I have started out ith a 10...say I am sick one day...and I drop to a 9...now that I have a level, I want to keep it!!! I would be very crushed to loose it! I can't help but wonder what the criteria is to have certain levels. I mean, I've read it...but it doesn't give that much detail. *sigh* I guess we will just have to figure it out along the way. Thanks myLot for the 10!!!! It is gret to know because I have been working very hard!!!

this is an extra feature which i think is a good addition to the myLot community. However i wonder if the posts will always be rated and if some people will just do it out of spite... this will be bad if you are a subject of all the negative ratings just because a couple of users reckon they will be having a laugh... I hope though that myLot keep track of whos giving what ratings, for example if one user just constantly keeps giving out negative ratings...well 1 star or no star ratings then they could be percieved as pointlessly rating peoples responces unfairly and i hope myLot will take action against these people in the hope to keep the myLot community a place of good feedback and somewhere without the users that just put low ratings for fun, or negative feedbacks .... but overall yes a good feature to be added to mylot , keep them coming mylot! khris

I think this is a super idea it will give us a better idea of who is taking the time to actually do dicussion like they should be and not throwing out a few words.I think this will encourage people to leave better responses on discussions and keep a discussion going for awhile.Thank you for the update and as always you are doing a wonderful job.

Cool feature. Its good to know that I have a rep of 8 as of now but I thought it would be much more. At least if you respond to discussions started by rep 10 users and you post quality discussions your rep shouldn't fall lower than the current one. Just a thought ;-)

This is a very interesting thing to do. I'm curious if it will at all help with increased payment later on in the future. I'd say the greater your content is, the more money should be payed into your account.

I think that this is an awesome idea. I am very new to this site and how things really go around here, but I am sure that I will get the hang of it before long. It's really cool to have a site, such as myLot, to come to and discuss about things, subjects, issues, etc. that you are interested in or going through at the time.

Wow! I think that I quite like the idea of this new feature. I can't wait to see how my rating will fluctuate from day to day. It will be really interesting to find out what kind of a rating some of my good friends on here have, as well. I would really be surprised if they don't all have quite high ratings! ^_~ Kudos to Mylot for another great new addition! ^_^
