I have lent money to my father-in-law before. I will never do it again. He is horrible at paying back loans. To family, friends, or to the bank. Doesn't matter. We once loaned him $400 dollars so he could catch up his loans. He promised that as soon as he got his refund check in the mail he would pay us pack. The check was due to him the next week. The check came ans went and he didn't even think twice about giving us any of the money. I had to keep having my husband (his son) call him and remind him that he owed us money. We eventually got it all back - but not in a timely fashion.

I used to be very kind when it came to lending out money, and I have done it a lot in the past. However, I have been burned a number of times now, where I have lent it out, been promised that I would be paid back very soon, and I have yet to receive any reimbursement to this day. We are talking close to $1000 in the last two years between two people, and it gets very frustrating when people take advantage of you like that. Now I am much more cautious about who I lend money to, and I don't lend very much at all any more.
