How long did it take you to buy your first house?

For us - we saved while we were dating. Neither myself or my husband ever wanted to rent anything. We wanted a farm so we both saved independatnly while we were dating. My husband ( then my fiance) but a large farm for me for my birthday the year before we got married. He surprised me with it. We originally looked at it together and I fell in love with the land...he told me that someone else had purchased it and it was no longer on the market. Then he gave it to me shortly after on my birthday!
We built a new home on it when we got married and built a barn. So actully we built a new home and moved in right after we got married.

As compared to the poster above, we are not rich. I've been married for 8 months now and we are still looking for a house and lot that we can purchase. It has to be affordable and will satisfy our needs. So we keep on savings to be used when the time comes.

We bought our first house when we were 22 and lived in New Zealand. Since we now live in Australia we are currently renting it out. We are considering selling it to buy over here.
It didn't take us long to buy the house - we had only been together for about 2 years when we bought it(and we had kids along the way!)
