Why you like Pantera? And do you agree that Darrel is the great musician?

In the metal scene, it's really hard for a band to set themselves apart from all the other bands that are also heavy. It's hard to sound unique since it's easy to sound heavy with all the gadgets that are already out there. But Pantera definitely changed that and I think Dimebag was the key. But what set "His Heaviness", Dimebag Darrell, apart from all other metal guitarists out there were His personality and musicality. As we all know, His Heaviness was a down-to-earth fellow and able to get along with most people that He has gotten to know and vice versa(although Phil and His Heaviness had a misunderstanding, they were once close friends). On the other hand, His musicality was also undeniably among the best there was during His years. His sound was heavy, but at the same time you can still distinguish every note of every heavy riff that he created. It's fat, heavy, and electrifying! His leads were really unique and soulful. I really like how He used the wah pedal on his lead parts without sacrificing the clarity of notes. I also love the movement of his fingers when fretting the guitar. It looks so cool, so natural. And of course His high pitch squeels. Yes, his high pitch squeels. It sounded so cool that I really tried to learn it after I saw his instructional video on youtube. He can pull off those squeels and making it sing. That's why for me, Dimebag, up to this day, still reigns as the heaviest-sounding guitar player. "His Heaviness" rests in peace now.

what metalhead doesn`t like Pantera? :) Pantera kicked a lot of a** no doubt about it. Darell`s solos were like nothing i`ve encountered on the heavy rock scene, they`re just unique. i mean Pantera was a unique phenomenon itself. Vinnie`s drumming inspired and influenced mine since i`ve started studying drums. Pantera rules! Revolution is their name!

Ive heard damageplan ( vinnie and dime's new band ) as well as super joint ritual ( phil's new band after pantera ), but they didnt quite match the power that Pantera throws at your face when you listen to it.
I mean Pat Lachman is good and all, but the chemistry Pantera had is not something that you get by just teaming up the best of the best. It's a chemistry achieved thru years and years of being together. Making music together.
Not undermining dime and vinnie's guitar and drumming skills but making music does not only depend on the drums and guitars. Bass is a very crucial part of music. And ofcourse, the voice. It represents the face of the music.
Pantera is one hell of a team. Too bad they are but humans and have their own opinions.

Pantera basically set the standard for aggression in heavy music, and the way they changed the sound of heavy metal was amazing. Dimebag Darrel just played from his heart and didn't bother with methods of technical playing, he could play technical and fast, but he didn't concentrate on scales or anything for that, it just came from his heart, which made it great genuine music! Even though there is a lot of bad things being said about Phil in other places, I do think he is an amazing musician, he is probably the best heavy metal singer in my opinion. Its a shame he let in go in the later years of Pantera!

i like pantera because their music is melodic and heavy at the same time. it's really a treat to the ears. Dimebag Darrel is one of the best guitarists that ever lived. besides being a great guitarist, he was also a great person. a lot of his friends in the industry described him as a warm and friendly fellow, and was very humble. it's rare to have a top ranked rock icon that is down to earth. dimebag's fingers are gold! his skills are unbelievable! man, i'd be lucky to even be 1/10000000 of what he was. RIP dimebag!

I'm a guitarist and i know that dimebag not only put technical difficulties on his guitar lines, but the musicality is always there... especially his squeals, divebomb and legato!! plus the out of this world chromatic scales he inserts on his guitar solo and riff, his vibrato... everything he does is like magic to my ear. It all adds character to their songs. Very talented musician.
Have you seen a guitarist doing whirlwind while playing his solo?! ONLY DIMEBAG CAN DO THAT!!

Pantera was one of the best heavy metal bands that ever existed. Their songs were great. Dimebag was a guitar hero and a very kind and generous person based on the tributes i've seen and read.

Pantera was the first heavy metal band that I've heard when I was about 10 years old and since then I love the band.. The hot licks, the powerfull riffs, the heaviness, and the voice of Anselmo.. I think that Pantera is the only band that will never stop to like me.. I'll always love Pantera
