If You Don't Know How It Works, Why Are You Here?

No, I'm not talking about the ever speculated and much debated Mylot earnings algorithm. I'm talking about the basic ins and outs of the site.
I keep seeing all these posts - and not by new users, mind you! - asking the most simple of questions. The most recent was a user with well over a thousand posts wondering how users could possibly rate other users. And claiming that Mylot should institute a rating system.
And there are all the others. The wondering how to add friends, the questions about what the numbers under a person's name means, the questions about when and how they'll get paid...
Is it so difficult to read the guidelines of a site you're using?

whenever I come across such Mylot related
queries by a (new) user , I have been giving
the links to guidelines , FAQ & alerts
so that the (new) user will read & understand
them . But I found that the same user starts
a new discussion for the same query in
different words - This is simply abusing
the Mylot system . And I have been reporting
such persons ...

Yeah, I've defaulted to 'read the guidelines/FAQ' to these discussions. It's one thing from a new user, I can have a little leniency... but the people who've been here long enough to have thousands of points? If they haven't figured things out yet....

The fact that people are getting paid for any discussion and any post makes it easier (and more profitable) to just ask the question here than to read guidelines, also it makes more members reply and repeat the same answers just by rewording it , so one member ask a question like "when will i get paid?" and he gets like 50 similar answer.
People can read and they do read but they will continue posting these questions time after time even if they already know the answer :(
And of course there are those members how just want to make as much money as possible and they don't waste a few minutes to understand how it works as long as they see their points raise every minute, once they get confused about something they start posting negative things about mylot and how it works and they may start suggesting some improvements that are already in place as you said.

I have always wondered why people tend to ignore the print. It isn't just with the internet and membership websites, but even in the real world away from their computer.
They do ask questions that are clearly answered in the print. It would take them but seconds to learn the answers to their questions so I do not understand why they ask. It is one thing to simply not understand what the text is saying and to ask a question about its meaning rather than not read it and expect others to tell you.
You still have to read it wether you look to the print or someone types it out for you.

Yes the list of rules here on MyLot is rather short. It is also written very simply. This makes the laziness that much more confusing.

Perhaps people are too lazy to read a long detailed text. Though the rules are not more than a page's length.

I also see questions from high point users asking the most basic questions. I have been guilty myself when I first started of asking daft questions but it was usually about things that were not outlined in the guidelines.

I've been here about a week and I'm still trying to FIND the guidelines. Also, many people learn in different ways. I don't get much from having manuals/rules, etc read to me. Nor can I sit and read a set of rules from beginning to end. I have to jump in, try stuff, and learn from my mistakes. It's not the ideal way to learn but it is the only way I learn.

The links are all on the homepage and at the bottom of every single page on the site. It says 'guidelines' right there. There's a difference between learning and signing up for a website and agreeing to a TOS and agreeing that you understand how the site works when you actually don't.

I agree that we should check the guidelines, because when i sign up in a website especially where I could earn, I see to it that I will check out all the details i need. It is important for us to know the needed information before we get into something to avoid any negative implications.

People are here to learn. If you have been here for less than a week it is normal to have a bunch of questions. After the week is up there should not be as many questions about how it works unless you have never used a specifice area on mylot.

agreeing with angrykitty/just look up the info so you know

yes you are right.people should read the guidlines or FAQ before joining a site or atleast in this case after joining and before posting.and i guess all the not so new members posting such topics may have ran out of topics to post and such discussions are a great way to invite responses.so theres nothing you can do but avoid such posts and continue to post quality ones.

I totally agree..you couldn't have worded this better! It drives me crazy to see so many people asking such silly basic questions. Mylot has a FAQ section..why don't they read it. Yesterday when the reputation system was introduced, within seconds of the stars, they were atleast 10 of them asking what it was. It was just another reason for them to start a discussion!! Any new change in myLot's rules and you have a string of discussions all asking the same thing. I wonder exactly the same thing...if they don't know why are they here?!

Yes, I did know everything when I started. I read all the guidelines and rules and the FAQ before I started posting. Which is what you're supposed to do.

No I dont think it is hard to find the guidelines. However these people are making money by posting questions on the site. They are making money at something you did on your own. SHould they read the guidelines? yes they should. Is it wrong to ask questions on here, NO. Its not. They are smart enough to make money at it. As for them not being new users, then maybe the question isnt legit, but just one for people to post to.

It's not wrong to ask questions, but it's stupid to ask questions they should already know the answer to. And stupider still to ask questions they *do* know the answer to just to get responses. That's scamming.

i also see alot of members like that and yeah some of them already have hundreds or thounsands of ranks. i guess its all in a common sense.
maybe those who post like "how is this works" or "im a newbie how can i earn" are people who dont know any topic to discuss and have the urgency to earn so they just post any nonsense topic.
another thing are those who post question about the alert...
i dont know if they dont understand the alert or they just want to post discussion.

Hey don't make fun uv us users of myspace this way! This sight is sew complikatid az it iz. I'm stil trying tu figyer owt y it sez I"m 423 years old next to my name. LOL.
You make a good point. But seriously, though, you expect people to read the user guidelines of this place? Most people today could barely read a comic book or a box of Cheerios. Sorry, I'm hypercritical of our society, but it's hard to find anyone in the mainstream society who will admit to liking to read, and when I did my earlier stint in college, I saw many absolute morons get their degrees (I, on the other hand was the kind of moron that didn't graduate. So I'm doing it again--skool that is. Yuk Yuk) without ever having opened a book. Teachers, even!-- young men and women with education degrees who were minimalists by nature--these are who we are trusting our children to... Scary world we live in. Peace out.

i didn't understand your point of concern. how is it affect you if someone ask how to rate other! you just simply ignore thoise discussions. Mylot didn't tell you that you have to read all the discussions. you go to your interrest the pick the discussion of your choice and you if you think you can add something, go ahead and add that and help to enrich the forum.
it is not at all to read all the guidlines i guess. but how do you ensure that they should have questions after reading guidlies too. if you discuss the topic you may be able to know much more. there are several example where the discussion topics looks very simple, inside there is a huge information and can really help someone.
Looking forward for your patient for everyone ...

It's not a point of concern, I'm just frustrated at these pointless discussions flooding the new discussions page and pushing back the *good* discussions. When someone floods the site with useless and needless posts, they bury the good posts.
There is no need to repeatedly ask things like 'HOW DU U RPLY?!?!' and things like that. It's hard to ignore them when you have to slog through them to get to the good stuff.
