if you have $3000, are you willing to spend it to travel to a place you've been dreaming to go to like japan, europe, australia or US? or would you rather save or deposit the money in the bank?

Travel! Definitely. Maybe not spend all the money on the travel - put some of it aside to earn some interest and have something to come back to. But as they say "You can't take it with you" so when you've got it, spend it! Anything could happen tomorrow, so if you've got the opportunity to do something or go somewhere you've always really wanted, then go for it. What if you never realise this dream? You will always not having gone when you could. Apart from that, why should a bank make interest on your hard-earned cash? They will be investing it in unethical stuff that you may not even approve of. When you hand it over to a bank you are saying "Here, do what you want with it!". Would you hand your money over to a complete stranger in the street and tell them they could do anything with it, as long as when you come back in a few months you can have at least the principal amount back? Of course not. So - absolutely my recommendation would be to spend the most of it travelling. Meet new people, see new places, have new experiences. It can't be beaten.

Obviously, my post was meant to say that you would always REGRET not having gone when you could! Is it not possible to edit posts on this site?

I would try to find the best money-saving deal to travel to my dreamspot and put the surplus money on the bank. The interest of the surplus I would use to support a charity maybe in the country I have travelled to.

I'd save the money for future travel ;) (am currently saving up for an overseas trip in 2008, so $3000 would be a good start!)

Presently i am 19 years old and i would prefer investing the money in stocks or something else instead of spending on lavish life styles or traveling around. But my decision would have been opposite if i would have been of something like 36 years old with a nice secured job.

I would put $1000 in savings and use the rest for the best trip that I could manage for $2000.

If those were extra 3000 , then i would definitely indulge HALF of it. 3000 is a huge amount of money already for me. But if those are my only money, then to the bank it goes. There are other things more important as of the moment for that.

That would be a hard choice! In my present situation, though, I would actually have to pay off some debts. I have already had some travel to places such as Myrtle Beach, SC, and the Bahamas, but I was in much better financial situation. Now, I am again a student and feeling quite frugal.
