Learn French by listening to French songs.

Why English speakers don't listen to other than their own music or eventually some latin music? I noticed that where i live in Ireland. Everybody knows the English songs but nobody I know knows an italian, spanish, german or french song. I grew up knowing all the famous world music plus French music. I think it is an advantage that helped me learning English and Spanish quicker, even my ears are used to listening to other languages like german or russian... What do you think English speakers?

My dayghter has to learn Irish and Italian for school and isnt doing brilliantly in either especially the Irish. I thought of getting her a linguaphone language trainer for Italian and she laughed at me and said she wouldnt use it. I also suggested she watched the Irish language channel T na G to perhaps improve her Irish and that got another laugh. I think that if we were exposed to more languages ,as you say, we might pick them up quicker.

I agree. How old is your daughter to be able to laugh at you? Tell her it is serious and that if she watch the irish television plus listen to the radio and to some music, she will defenitely improve without a doubt.

I have learnt more Spanish by listening to my favorite Mexican and South American bands than in language classes. Plus, you can learn how to use the language in a "conversational" way. And once you start learning the language you can learn the culture behind the music.
