Yes you can have true friendship even it is online. I have had the same email pen pal for 5 years and we have never met. We have sent video mail, online pictures, but have never met. He sent me video tape of his sons being born, when he graduated college, and even when he got married. I have helped him with his marriage problems and even spoke to his wife a couple of times so that she would know how I am. I really consider him a friend. So it is possiable to have a friend even if it is just online. He has never asked me for money, for me to send him anything, or anything else. He is more of a friend to me then people I see on a daily basis. Its that weird.

Excuse me Hirals, but who is Hirals? Is she a virtual entity or a person made of flesh and blood? Yes, we are "only online", as you say, but we are here, with our thoughts, with our sentiments, with our feelings, with our viewpoints.... Yes, you are right, I can't see your eyes, I can't smell the scent of your hairs, I can't hear your voice, but we are here, even if we are "only on line", we are always human beings.
This is what I think.

I definitely think so. I used to play online roleplaying games a LOT (I still do occasionally), and I met a lot of interesting people through them. I started talking to some of them on instant messanger, and a few on the phone (I even met one!). There are at least three who I've known for about 7 years, never met, and still keep in touch with today.

I think sometimes the most honest friendships are online. I know that I have made some good friends online. You are not really afraid of what the other person thinks, and you are more likely to share your honest opinion. Yes, sometimes you will come across those who create a whole new identity online, but many times you find people just being the person they are not really afraid of what others think.

I also think that yes, you can have true friendships online.
I've had some online friends for years, who I've never met. I also have friends who I've met a couple of times, but the friendship's mainly online.
To me, a friendship is about emotional and mental connections. You don't have to be in the physical presence of someone, to be able to share that connection.
