Opinion abt the Booker-winner

Hello people Having read about the award-winning performance by an Indian, Kiran Desai, i went ahead & bought this book & started reading. Well, after i ended the book a few days back, I dint think it was such a great book, having had still higher expectations from an award-winning novel. But, this maybe also due to my lack of experience in reading such books.. the award-winners.. What do u ppl think? And are all award-winning books seldom catching up the eye of the general public?
