From school days I enjoyed chess. Now my son is playing it very well. I have heard an interesting story about the invention of the chess board. The king was very happy with the invention and asked the inventor what he wants. He told the king that he wants one grain of rice on the first square, 2 on the 2nd, 4 on the 3rd, 8 on the 4th and like that double the amount in the next square in all the 64 squares. The king smiled for his small request and told the servant to bring a few bags full of grain to fullfil his wish. Then the inventor pointed out that if the king could provide that much of grain, it will cover the entire world 2 inches high. This is true. Calculate in a spreadsheet and see.
