I am reading the Sonnets now and loving them. What are you reading by Shakespeare? Or do you hate him because you were forced to read his plays in school?

I have a hard time with the sonnets. His plays have set character archetypes that are timeless and reused in one way or form by other writer's like me.

The sonnets are very difficult to understand. When I first started reading them I thought they were very straight forward, but they aren't. I found this website www.shakespeares-sonnets.com
Warning: this can be very dry, but it does explain every sonnet in detail.

i wasn't forced to read shakespeare during school (i was studying at a science profile so reading wasn't the number 1 thing for us). but i used to read alot. i read the sonnets and some of his plays and i enjoyed them very much. and since english is not my native language i also read some of the sonnets and few of his plays in english. i was the only one in my year to be fascinated about shakespeare though.

I had to read Shakespeare during high school and that is how I was introduced to his work. But I didn't pay attention to my teacher and was able to enjoy his plays. I'm not sure how other countries handle teaching literature, but in the US it can be a horrible experience. Every literature teacher I had gave me another reason to hate books. But we also have freedom to ignore our teachers.
