You all have seen the House series and let's be frank, the guy is a jerk but it is impossible not to like him. Well, have you ever went to the doctor and he was a total stupid that didn't even listen what you have to say? There are a lot of those out there. I know because I am a medicine Student.
What qualities do you think a doctor should have in order to be very good? should he be like Dr. House? And please tell me any stories or experiences you may have on this subject.

I agree with most that has been said.
Most important is to really be able to treat the patiences. Of course, if he/she is nice and works with a smile on his face, the better. :)
You're going in the right way! ;)

A Doctor needs to be Caring, and concerned about their patients, and take time to listen. They should never Jump to conclusions, and blame a situation on the patient, because they think they know best. And they should be open to other options the patient might suggest to them as well.
For instance, I am a Diabetic, who at one time suffered from Severe Chronic wounds. They were to the point where I could have lost my right leg due to it. All the Doctor did was put me on Strong Antibiotics and sent me to the wound Clinic. It was only like 2 yrs later when I got a Severe almost Deadly Staph infection did they consider Insulin even though I was running over 300 for BG for about 3 yrs straight.

That was very bad! but i keep seeing it happening. It is very common to see bad doctors who don't listen to their patients as they should. And because of that they usually make bad diagnosis.
I remeber a case of a male middle age patient who entered the clinic at 10 a.m. with something that seemed like a unilateral jaw paralisy. The doctor in the clinic didn't even examine the patient and just assumed it was a vascular-cerebral accident and passed him to a specialist. The man was submitted to severall exams and it was 8p.m.!! when one of our teachers saw him sitted waiting in a bench. the teacher went there and noticed there was something wrong and just started making palpation in the patient's face. The patient didn't have an vascular accident! he simply had disattached his jaw articulation while shaving (don't ask me how! :) and the only thing my eacher had to do was placing the jaw in the right place again and the patient could go home again.
this is actually truth and things like these happen more than it should

Actually I am an medicine student in Portugal :)
therefore my curiosity in this issue. I would like to know what people think about this issue (people outside the medical environment).
thanks for your contribute!
we already have:
respect, good listeners, caring, polite, careful making an examination, open to other options and concerned

As long as he can treat and fix my problem I don't care how he acts. My health is all that matters. At the end of the day, If he wants to act like a jerk, I don't care. At least I will be alive and healthy.

In general, a good doctor needs good people skills;
unlike Dr House. The best doctors who have treated
me have been good listeners, and they have had respect
for their patients as intelligent human beings.

To be honest, i don't see the doctor often, in fact i barely go there.
But in my opinion what should be in state is the ability of the doctor to heal me, instead of his personality. I really don't care if the doctor makes a joke when i say "it hurts here" or simply ignores me, if in the end he says "Here you have, take 2 of this, and tomorrow it's like nothing happened". After all Dr.House manages to save almost everyone in that hospital, and in spite of his arrogance and uncommun humour, they make him look like a genius, so gonzalu, if one day you become like him, i'd be honoured and proud to have you has my doctor. To conclude, a doctor should be professional and lucid.

I have not seen house yet, but from the comercials I would ahve to say that he seems a bit odd for being a doctor and I like my doctors to be sane.
