I lived there for about 18 years and moved due to my wifes new job 3 years ago. Calgary is in Western Canada, about a 90 minute flight from Vancouver. It is a great city that is absolutely booming right now, and finding work there is easy. You are only a little over an hours drive away from the rockies and Banff, Lake Louise which are incredibly beautiful places to visit. The downside at the moment may be the house prices which have gone through the roof due to the current boom...other than that a great city to live in....GO FLAMES!!

August 12, 2007 - Calgary is still booming. It can be difficult to find a place to live, especially if you are on a tight budget. The best advice is to check out the living accommodations before you commit to a move. If you are going to be making minimum wage, expect to share accommodations. September is when the university and colleges start their academic year and many students will be looking for places to live.
Moving here from Toronto or Vancouver, though, you will probably not be too shocked by the prices - it's the availability of accommodation that might be your greater problem.

I've only been through Calgary once a long time ago. Its in Mid West Alberta. I'll probably be going there a few times because I just accepted a job in the resort town of Banff. Banff is 1hr drive from Calgary. Its on the border of the rockies and the prairres. Its quite a big city and there is a big cowboy culture there. They have a big rodeo there every summer.
Where are you living now?
