I've been smoke free for almost two years now, although I miss it every day. The biggest hurdle is just trusting that you are secure enough to get rid of this important part of your lifestyle.
I started by completely ridding my house and surroundings of anything that smelled of smoke - repainted, took suits and coats to the cleaners, had the car detailed and the upholstery cleaned. Given the amount invested in this, I was interested in keeping it up.
Then I really just thought about when I smoked and the things I normally did while I smoked and tried to change as much of my routine as possible. It worked fairly well. As long as I was disconnected from those co-related habits, I found that the cravings were usually tolerable.
I'm not saying it was easy because it wasn't, and I still have the occasional craving but, I don't consider myself a person of strong willpower and I came through it relatively unscathed.

Of course, you are right - but quitting smoking is a pretty extreme lifestyle change, sometimes requiring extreme measures.

I don't smoke, but my father did. I want him to quit, but I think it's impossible. Even there is a best seller book of "How to Quit Smoking", without the smoker's will that would never be happen.
When there is a will there is a way, when there is no will there are many excuse.
