I prefer to read the books rather than watch the films. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy watching films, but when i've read a book and then watched the film i've always found the film to be a bit of a letdown. I suppose it's because the book allows you to build up your own pictures in your imagination, whereas films are much more restrictive. I don't think i've ever seen a film that's been better than the book...unless, of course, the book is based on a film, then the book is never as good. I suppose the general rule of thumb in my opinion is that (and you'll have to excuse the cliche here) 'the original is the best'.

Definitely I love reading the book. As you will not read it all in a day, I love the way it leaves you wanting to read more to see what's going to happen. If it is a good book I find myself thinking of what's going to happen 2 or 3 times a day. I agree with you that sometimes the whole sense of the story is lost if you watch the film.
