When you asked a Computer Technician to service at your home like the GeekSquad or ComputerTech, how much average do you pay?

I own a computer business doing service calls. I charge in 2 different rates depending on what the customer feels more comfortable with. We have the flat rate fee or the hourly fee. hourly fees we charge 60.00 per hr with a one hour minimum because we all know a problem may only take 5 minutes to fix and after gas drive time etc, that being considerate. most companys charge a 2 hour minimum. Giving the customer the option has really made it successful because if i say ill charge 150.00 to fix your computer or we can do it hourly. The customer may think what if this problem on takes 1 hour and the company waist theres and my time (4-5 hours) to fix the problem.
If someone does not care about money or they know what the problem is and just dont know how to fix it, they usually choose hourly.
Friends and family i used to help out for free BUT... Something very important to konw in business is that you cant make rent doing it for free. After i realized everyone was always having problems and always needed help I started charging a very gernerous fee. Just the price for gas and maybe 10.00 to buy lunch.

Wow that's really a help ComputerKing. How about dealing with Server problems do you have the same rate for it like complicated problems on Windows Server or a Linux Server. Or you have another rate for it.

With the companies you listed above they have a set rate you pay per hour. When we got a quote at work it was quite a bit for the guy to come out and do some work, but that may just be for businesses. My husband charges $75 an hour, my ex-husband charges $85 per hour, and our normal tech at work charges $90 (but we get a cut rate). One of our friends does computer work as one of his services and charges $120 per hour. I really think it depends on who the person is, how qualified they are and what company they work for. Most people who do it on the side and are affiliated with any company, charge less than the averGe going rate. Where I live you can get charged from %70 -$500+ depending on what you need done.

When you say qualified, what are the qualifications that would proove that he is qualified, because some people would just say hey im a certified in this and that but seems it's just a paper show. So how will i know if the tech person is really good and qualified? Is there a chance that the problem went back in a day after he fixed and you have to call again the computer geek? Do they charge for this repair again or they have a specific days for warranty that they can come back for free service if the problem was not solved.

We have a private company come and take care of our computers. They charge $90 an hour. But they never take longer than an hour.

Is that $90 an hour any service, like Computer re-format, computer re-installation or any service. Is it a fixed rate or the rate varies?

It's a flat fee for everything we've had them come and do. In my computer at work they put in more memory, tuned it up, etc. On my personal laptop they replaced the mother board, the hard drive, the memory, the modem and the deal where the phone cord plugs in (I got a virus that crashed everything, that of course took longer than one hour) on my dad's work computer they've installed more memory (to a brand new computer, piece of crap! Anyway!!) an external hard drive... I don't know what else. But usually they just do the routine maintenance on our work computers since we are doing graphics on them all the time.
