I joined the Freecycle mailing list a couple of years ago and think it's a really great thing to belong to. It's a great way to help recycle. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. I had a stack of slightly used (but stained) old blankets, turned out they were perfect for a new pet adoption/rescue kennel that had opened up. They were very grateful and didn't care if they were stained or not, they were good for cages. (In the past, I probably would have just thrown them out.) Glad you found it, I'm sure you'll enjoy belonging to something that really helps:-)

oh yeah i love freecycle. i belong to 2 different ones in my area. you wouldnt believe the things people have in there homes, that they have no need for anymore. i mean my cpu monitor actually fizzled and went out, so i went over to my friends house and found so many people in my area giving them away, i was stunned. so have fun with freecycle..and enjoy; dont forget to keep your wants and offers balanced....happy bargaining

Yes, freecycle is a really great site.. I am always telling people about them. I have been a member for about 2 years or so. I have been able to get rid of so much stuff, like clothes the kids didnt wear anymore and appliances I didnt use. its great. and then you can find such good things on there too. but if you are a member of one with alot of members you just have to be quick to reply or you will miss out everytime lol..
They have everything on there from clothes to furniture to pets and anything you can think of. I actually just got my boxer from there, she is so great.
anyways, I love the site and am glad you posted this to make others aware.. it can be a great site for people who need things but dont have the money, you can find anything there.
Happy freecycling!:)

I really appreciate this site. I've been a member for about a year and I find that it really comes in handy. For example I had left over paint I didn't need and I freecycled it. It was a good feeling not to have to throw that away and add to the landfill.

I have been going to freecycle.org for awhile now use to be alot easier to get things from the board but it has grown very large and alot of members now in our area. I may live in a small town but we are big on recycling here have been for along time. We have alot of businesses that recycle cars, cans ect.
Now we have away to recycle old other items instead of throwing them in a garbage heap and help out people who can't necessarily afford to buy new at the same times like myself. I can't always afford to buy new items and have gotten a few things off there. I have offered a few items even.
I like the setup because you can find a site that local to your area which means no shipping just go and pick it up or have them come to you house and pick it up if your offering an item.

I am sorry for all of you who live in such a big town that your items are out of reach. Can you join a smaller group somewhere close ?

Oh, this site it GREAT! I love it. If it's free....it's for me! I belong to 3 different ones. I signed up for the one that my town is part of, one just next door to my town, and one out where I used to work - but still go out that way.
I just can't believe the number of things that people don't want and are willing to give it away for free. I heard it was started by a couple of college kids that came up with the idea for a school project and then it kind of snow-balled.
I keep telling people about it. Then I always share my finds so that they can see what great things you can get from freecycle. I think if I keep doing that, that they might sign up.

I never heard the story about the college kids. That is pretty neat. Neat to think that there's still some caring young adults in this world.
