Do you have the habit of learning new words everyday? I do it generally. I have got a very nice Word Book by Reader's Digest from which I try to learn new words everyday. On weekends I end up learning many pages from it. How many of you enjoy it?

I have a pretty decent vocabulary right now, I don't go out of my way to learn new words, if one pops up that i don't know, then I try to find out right away. I am a 911 dispatcher and translator for spanish speakers. If there happens to be a word that I don't know in spanish, I always get out the dictionary to look it up.

I tried learning new words but later i felt very hard to remember so i no more trying to learn new words. Earlier i used to have software that displays words and meanings on the computer monitor for a duration which the learner can fix, initially i learned but after 2 days i couldn't remember what i learnt 2 days back, because everyday new words are loading and memory gets overloaded and the old words overflow from the memoryy,, and i found it was very difficult to continue any more so i left it... I wonder how u r able to learn new words every day and retain them memory, can u pls tell how what is ur process of retaining so that i wil once again give a try..

Yes but not on a daily basis. I take them as i go along. Im what you may call a voracious reader. Whenever i encounter a new word, i go to the usual drill lookin up in the dictionary, then use them fairly well in discussion both in the net or real life or even just to myself, mentally talkin. Readers Digest has always been the book that was part of my growing up, since my father was an avid reader of it too. It helps to know new words. Its effective when some smart aleck would come crashin the conversation.
