In my area we are very lucky as we have recycling collections every fortnight where the truck comes round and collects all our jars, paper, glass, tins etc, so there is no excuse NOT to recycle. Bank statements I shred and the shredded paper is ideal to give to my rabbit as bedding, she loves paper as well as straw. We recycle as much as we can.

We do recycle. Our town just recently switched out our standard "blue bins" with these enormous bins on wheels. When they did that, they also changed the pick-up from weekly to bi-weekly. A lot of people are unhappy because the new bins are too big for some people to manage (such as senior citizens) and others find the bins fill up too much before the next pick up (especially the side for paper and cardboard). Unfortunately, these new bins are picked up mechanically, by "arms" on the collection truck, so we are not allowed to stand anything beside the bin (such as the extra cardboard) and they will not collect from the old, small bins or recycling bags. The idea is that the driver of the collection truck does not get out to pick anything up.
Besides recycling that way, we also collect any items we don't need and we donate them to an organization that sells "gently used" clothing, furniture, household items, etc., and the funds they raise are used to fund programs for the intellectually handicapped. Outside of that, we also hold a garage sale every couple of years to sell things that are still in like new condition but we just aren't making use of them.
I'm really bad at returning soda bottles and cans to the store for a refund of the deposit. I end up putting them in my recycling bin instead. We actually had trouble for awhile with folks driving around on the night before collection and digging through everyone's bins for the items they could get money for... and often leaving a huge mess in the process!

there are places here for recycling.beverage bottles, juice bottles are collected there and accordingly they will pay me.4 cents or 8 cents for each depending on the size.so i used to put those in a big basket and keep them in my patio and once in a month i will give them back and collect my money.if you need information regarding this you can check the site(i dont know wheather it is for california only)bottlesandcans.com

No and it's terrible I know. However, there isn't any recycling place that I know of in my area. So we are stuck with either paying someone to come collect it each week along with our garbage, or just don't recycle. I find this a bit goofy. So being we can not afford to have this service, we just toss the cans and bottles out.

Religiously.
Toronto actually has a pretty good city recycling program - we get curbside pickup of cardboard, paper, aluminium, glass, most plastics and food wastes. I also try to repair things before throwing them out. I use old clothes for rags and patches and use the material to make things like cushions. Anything we can't use any more gets donated to our local freecycling group.
I also try to avoid things with too much packaging. We actually throw out very little. It's not uncommon for us to have one small plastic bag of garbage every fortnight.

Recycling is a good habit, and contributes to reduce the manufacturing cost. I am the member of a Recycling site at Bangalor, wherein the members will offer unuseful stuff/things, and the needy members can pick it up for free. Rcycling of natural resources, is good for the nation.

I recycle whenever I can. What I do with all my old clothes instead of throwing them in the junk is give them to charity, those needing old clothes. As for old appliances, we give them to relatives who needs them or to garbage collectors that might need them. There really are a lot of junk in our house that could be very useful for other people. So as much as possible I don't want old things go to waste.I give them away instead. That way I helped them as well as they helped me clear out some clutters in my house.

If you have clutter and/or items around your house you dont want to be bothered with selling or taking to the dump - then Freecycle is for you at www.freecycle.org for a Freecycle group in your area. Freecycle is international. Recycle items to avoid overfilling the garbage dumps and make space in your home. One man's trash is another man;s treasure" truely applies here. I have given away so many things that I almost trashed that someone wanted and even came and carted it away. You can put in requests, too, and from there I received a free handicapped electric lift recliner worth over $400.00 someone didnt need anymore! The only requirement is that you cant give away forbidden items like explosives and such and everything must be FREE, you cant barter, exchange or sell. Try it yourself!

Easy enough. Since you have access to the internet perhaps you could visit sites giving tips on how to recycle. As for me, I collect empty bottles and give them to my nephews who sell them for extra money. Almost everything can be sold to junk dealers: paper, plastic and metal.
