How do you recognize a good friend?

There is an old saying: A friend in need is a friend indeed.
But in the everyday life how do you recognize a friend?
A friend, for me is that person that make me feel nice in a sorrow day, that supports me when I need, that helps me to pass my problems, that is there when I need.
A true friend understand me and knows what I need...
How are your friends?

A good friend is recognized by his nature... A good friend will remain with us during both joy's and sorrow's.....

True, but this isn't all of a true friend; A friend also makes you feel good....
