Hiya aalekh12 :)
We use desktops.. we have 4. our girls have their own and hubby have our own...hubby's and mine are side by side...your probably thinking geesh why so many....well our girls were fighting too much over internet time, so they have their own but are only allowed to be used in moderation. The other two hubbies and mine , i also use for work . :)

I have a desk top and a laptop at home but I inly really use my laptop. My desktop runs way to slow for me. I rather use my laptop anyway because it is less of a hassle to turn on ans get it up and running .

Laptops have a great advantage in terms of their portability. If you carry a laptop with you, your applications and documents are always immediately available. With a wireless card, your laptop can also access the Internet while on the go, so you have more places to do research, check your email, and be more productive.
Desktops do offer advantages over laptops as well. Although laptop prices have come down while performance has increased each year most desktops offer a better price-to-performance ratio. Desktops also still hold some ergonomic advantages over laptops but bear in mind that they will also take up considerably more space in an apartment or residence hall.
Your decision should be based primarily on how you plan to use your computer, and then, how much your computing budget can handle.PC desktops are approximately 1/2 to 2/3 the price of a comparable laptop. Although the overall prices have declined, price gaps still exists, largely because of the higher cost of laptop displays and the added cost of miniaturized technology. Since laptops are portable, they are more prone to accidents and abuse than desktops. And due to their size, laptops require smaller, more intricate components and more tedious labor resulting in more costly upgrades and repairs. We do, however, recommend that you consider purchasing extended warranties for both laptops and desktops to cover the effective life of the machine.
