Have you experience any problem like codec not found, while playing your video files?I would like to introduce all my mylot friends a distro which would play all your video files. I am talking about a Linux based distro called GeeXboX Linux. This is a small distro which got a size of only 20 MB. All you need to do is just download the iso file and then burn it to a CD. Now boot your computer with the CD in your CD drive and setting first boot option as your CD Drive in BIOS. You will be entering to the beautiful Geexbox linux OS. After completely loading that OS the CD would be ejected out. Now play any videos you want. I hope this would be helpful for those who always searching for codecs to play their video file. Site address is www.geexbox.org.

Wow, that's a great piece of software. It's the "on the fly" mechanism like the knoppix, right, with minimal OS features? Just a guess!! But knoppix doesn't allow us to remove the CD, which gives us no option of putting a dvd or cd to play it. I am gonna try it out very soon. Hey swaroop, how do you keep yourself informed of all this informations? Have you any forum memberships?

Hi Nihal. Thanks for your response. You have been very supportive in my discussions.
Knoppix is a complete linux distribution which you can run directly from CD. It got hundreds of softwares and it is not possible to load all these softwares to the RAM. So it need to acces Knoppix CD to load any data or softwares frequently. Thats why it wont allow you to remove the CD. Whereas Geexbox is a very small distro and got only a multimedia player (mplayer to be specific) with all the codecs to play your multimedia files. So when you boot the CD all the data are loaded to RAM and thus it does not require the CD again to access any files. So it ejects Geexbox CD. Please dont take Geexbox as a complete Linux distribution.
I am a regular visitor of technology sites like slashdot, newsforge etc. Thats how i keep my self updated with the latest happenings in the tech world (and especially Linux world). I think you are very keen to learn all these things. Keep it up.

Yeah you are right. There is a Linux kernel and that why it is called a Linux Based Media Center. I think you got a good knowledge in linux.

Yeah I got that point but it must have atleast a kernel to start a process namely the mplayer. The case here may be that the kernel of this distro may be really small to fit into the RAM. What do you think about this? Am I right?

I am not sure about Damn Small Linux. Geexbox is just another movie/music player and Image Viewer which you can use even if you don't have an hard disk. I don't think any other functionality like a common Linux distro would be available in this. Thanks for your response.
