There is no such thing as a stupid child. And I get immediately irritated when I hear someone call a child stupid. There is a huge difference between stupid and uneducated. In this case, obviously this is a child who needs help with his math skills. Seems obvious to me that the proper way of dealing with it would be to correct his mistake and show him how to come to the right answer, not to berate him and treat him like he's stupid for making the mistake to begin with. If that's the case, I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate someone calling you stupid for your obvious spelling errors in your post.
