What I used to do is to write down all my activities for the day. Get a notebook and write down all the things that you need to do for the day and what time.
Then try to follow this schedule that you've written down. At first, it would really be hard but don't try to follow it strictly, treat it as a guide. Let's say you need to clean the house for 1 hour but it took you around 1:30 hours. That's okay, you can analyze later why you took longer and adjust accordingly.
Once you already have accomplished a schedule that fits you, you will then be able to manage your time easily.

My New Year's goal is to be more organized, so I purchased several storage boxes to sort items into all the same kinds of items in a box. I purchased file cabinets and folders to help with this problem also. My last purchase was a shelf for dvd's, as they were in stacks and now are in a,b,c order, so can easily pull out the one I really want to view easily and it won't take long to find it.
I have decided to do this project room by room and only concentrate on one room for 2 months, so my stress level doesn't increase while making each room look better. I have really reduced my living room and have several boxes ready for donation of items we really don't need and were making the room look messy.

I'm terrible at this, too. One thing that I found helpful was to make a household notebook. The notebook holds my calendar, shopping lists and menues. I also print up pages for addresses and phone numbers. It's a life saver.
I downloaded the pages for my household notebook from organizedhome.com
